I love her so much!
— Florentino —
As a senior, Florentino has had the opportunity to be a ‘dog dad’ to K.C. for the past 12 1/2 years. These two have a special bond of support and love for each other. Florentino shared, “I have done my best to keep my K.C. girl healthy. I have had her on a raw food diet her whole life, Quality food, annual check-ups, teeth cleaning, nails trimming, etc.” K.C. is an important part of Florentino’s life and he makes sure to care for her with all the love of a father toward his furry child.
Earlier in 2020, Florentino noticed K.C. had several lumps which began showing up on her body. He noted, “She has been a picture of health until this year. She is almost 13 years old, healthy and active. I am praying that these lumps, cyst, growths, are not cancerous.” Doing the next best step for K.C., he took her to Carmel Holistic Veterinary Clinic in order to diagnose the masses. Once there, it was determined several of the lumps were anal gland blockages and a couple of them were pre-cancerous, all of which would need to be removed in order to keep K.C. healthy.
When the estimate of the cost for surgery came back at just over $3,000, Florentino reached out to Max’s Helping Paws for assistance. Already living on a fixed income, Florentino also shared, “I am battling prostate cancer, pre-diabetic, and need 2 total knee replacements. Any help would be so, so appreciate! I am hoping that work will be back around the beginning of spring/ summer.” As a qualified applicant, Max’s was able to extend financial assistance that allowed for surgery of the anal glands, which were the first steps in healing for K.C. It is responsible pet owners like Florentino who provide their pets the best chances possible for a quality life, especially during these Golden Years for K.C.
