There was a point where I really felt we may have to say goodbye to Trigger. When I count my blessings at night Max’s is at the top of the list.

For some owners, their furry companion is more than just a companion. Trigger found his way into a loving family’s heart three years ago after being adopted from a local rescue organization. Not only is this handsome boy part of the family, but he also serves as a certified Emotional Support Animal (E.S.A) to aid his owner Heather, a former Navy veteran who says she would be lost without Trigger.

One day, Trigger’s owner noticed some blood along with some unexplained vomiting. As any responsible pet owner would do, Heather rushed him to the veterinarian. Unfortunately, the results were not as she’d hoped. The vet told Heather that she believed Trigger had a multitude of conditions that needed to be addressed right away. Heather and her family were faced with a difficult decision of what to do next, as the family was not able to afford the necessary medical treatment for Trigger. Luckily, Pet Specialists of Monterey Bay graciously sponsored Trigger to receive assistance from Max’s Helping Paws Foundation (MHPF). Trigger’s mom was panicked. Trigger needed help immediately, and wasn’t sure how they would be able to afford the ultrasound costs and medication he needed. Without assistance from MHPF, Trigger’s owner’s would have needed to consider foregoing the surgery.
Thankfully for Trigger’s family, MHPF was able to step in to assist with the often overwhelming burden of surgical costs and recovery.Heather says, “We cannot express how much we appreciate all those that chipped and came together to help him/us. I am so grateful for all the help we received. There was a point where I really felt we may have to say goodbye to Trigger. When I count my blessings at night Max’s is at the top of the list.”
Today, Trigger is continuing a smooth and steady recovery. His GI symptoms have almost completely resolved and his skin has improved in just the last few days of medications. Trigger is also back to climbing up on his owners bed to snuggle with his best friend, the family’s 8 month old son Wesley. He’s even getting back into the habit of begging for a ride in the car when he hears anyone grab the car keys! A big hug from and a sloppy kiss from Trigger to all who were involved in his care!”
