Chico is more than a pet to us he is like another child, my son’s only friend (single child).
— Camancho Family —
The last thing you expect when bringing home a beautiful puppy…is for them to need major surgery. 3 months ago, when the Camancho family adopted this 12 week old terrier into their home, they knew it was going to be a lifelone journey of love for them all. Choosing the name Chico, the family has enjoyed the last 3 months of getting to know their newest family member. Their only child has also become attached to this ball of energy named Chico, becoming fast friends full of love.
In mid-February, the Camancho’s became concerned when they noticed Chico limping. Keeping a close eye on the situation, they realized after a short time it was a limp which was not going away. They described what their next steps were, “I took him to the vet and they did X-rays and a surgery was recommened. We’ve had him on pain and anti-inflammatory medication to help but surgery is needed.”
When they reached out to Max’s Helping Paws, surgery was the last resort, but the necessary one for Chico’s leg. They shared all of the ways in which they had given Chico the best care possible before resorting to surgery, “We have tried medication, vet visits and surgery is the only solution to his problem, he is more than a pet to us he is like another child, my son’s only friend (he is a single child) I could not stand seeing Chico in pain and not able to use one of his legs.”
After so many vet visits, medications and diagnostics, the family’s resources were running out for Chico’s care. With her husband’s job impacted due to COVID and limited income, the family was overwhelmed by their desire to help Chico and the reality of financial difficulties in doing so. Max’s Helping Paws realizing in situations of financial hardship, often a family is faced with the decision to surrender their pet or economically euthanize them. Our goal is to be the rescue lifeline to ensure a family has another option – to keep their pet healthy, happy and home. It is thanks to our donor support and partner organizations Max’s was able to extend the assistance needed for Chico to receive his surgery. He is currently well on his way to recovery and walking without pain once again. Chico has received a chance at life!
