We’ve been through a lot together the past 2 years and I want him to live a healthy life.
— Sarah, Jack's mom —
Having a furry companion by our side as we navigate the ups and downs in life brings a sense of stability and comfort to us. For Sarah and her beautiful fur baby Jack, they have experienced a multitude of life over the past 7 years together. Now, as Jack is in his Golden Years at age 15, Sarah continues to provide him with all the care and comfort he deserves. Jack is not just a pet, but a family member.
This dynamic duo moved from Boston to LA together, and more recently to Monterey to have a safer home. While still trying to get their bearing during a turbulent year, Sarah noticed a tumor on Jack’s leg that appeared to be causing him pain. She quickly took him to The Pet Specialists of Monterey for diagnostics and was informed surgery was needed to remove the tumor. As Sarah sought assistance with Max’s Helping Paws, she told us her story, “I moved to the Monterey area during COVID and teach one course at Cal State. From 8/2018 – 12/2019 I was poisoned by gas leaks in an LA apartment. I was ill but my doctors could not determine why until gas leaks were discovered. It was worth for me to move to Monterey during COVID so Jack and I could have a safer home. I was in final interviews with two hospitals and both jobs were dissolved because of COVID. I worked in Harvard Teaching hospitals for 14 years and worked tirelessly on behalf of others and loved every second. But my financial state at 55 is the worst it has ever been. I know I will get back on my feet but don’t want Jack to suffer. Thank you for any help!”
One of our goals at Max’s Helping Paws is to offer financial assistance which will allow a pet companion to receive treatment so they may remain with their family and have a better quality of life. We realized Jack needed this surgery to continue living his Golden Years in a glorious fashion with no pain or suffering. It is thanks to our donors and partner organizations such as The Doris Day Foundation and AWAG that we were able to offer the assistance needed to Jack and his mom. Jack was able to receive the surgery to remove the tumor on his leg, alleviating the pain and discomfort he had been experiencing prior to the surgery. Once again, another pet companion has been able to remain at home and healing with his beloved family member. Enjoy your Golden Years Jack!
