Lovable Lenny

I hope this foundation will be able to lend A hand to our family..

— Joao —

11 years ago, Joao and his mother rescued a little Pitbull puppy who had been abandoned and left alone. Since that time, both Joao and his mother have cared for Lovable Lenny with open hearts and joy. In late July, both owners noticed Lenny did not seem to be exhibiting his usual levels of energy and had stopped eating and drinking. Since Lenny is not just a pet, but a member of their family, they were concerned enough to take Lenny to the Pet Specialists of Monterey right away to determine what was happening health-wise for Lenny.

Joao shared with us that, due to COVID-19, he is currently experiencing financial strain and reached out for support to make sure Lenny was able to get the diagnostic blood work and ultrasound needed to determine next steps in his care. Joao shared his situation with us, stating, ” My mother and I are both the owner I am currently unemployed and on unemployment. My mother is disabled and a senior citizen. Our financial situation is the reason we were referred to this foundation in hopes of receiving help to further our loving Lenny’s life. I feel he still has a lot of life left him and hope this foundation will be able to lend a hand to our family.” Joao was willing to do whatever it took to make sure Lenny got the proper diagnostics needed for Joao to make an informed decision for Lenny.

Although tests were completed and treatment given, Lenny did not show signs of improvement and Joao had to make an informed decision about Lenny’s next steps. Always a hard decision to make, thanks to the diagnostics and applied treatment, Joao was able to make a calm and rational decision that it was time to put Lenny to sleep. While a heart wrenching decision, Joao was able to feel peace in knowing he had done all he could for his best friend and the decision was the most loving situation for Lenny. Lenny, you will always be in our hearts.
