A ball of fluff with light and dark brown fur, and huge blue eyes approached Peter as a kitten 4 years ago. As Peter described it, “He liked me”. From that first moment of being ‘chosen’ by this fluffy kitten, a fast friendship between Peter and this Siamese kitten named Lucas was formed. Peter describes Lucas as “a little shy and quiet but when he wants something…Lucas will let you know!”
When Lucas started to have signs of not feeling well and having abnormal potty behaviors, Peter was worried and took him to the vet, where it was discovered Lucas had an obstructed urinary tract. Peter wanted to do anything he could to help Lucas, but as someone who is disabled and living on a fixed income, he was worried about the financial cost involved with the veterinarian care. Peter was told by the Pet Specialists of Monterey that his companion would need a catheter and 36 hours of stabilization, both items which would cost more than Peter was prepared for. His first thought was, “I can’t afford that.” With nothing but the health of his companion on his mind, Peter reached out to Max’s Helping Paws in order to make sure Lucas got the care he needed.
Thanks to the financial assistance provided by Max’s Helping Paws in under 24 hours, Lucas was able to receive his treatment with hospitalization. Without the assistance, Peter was going to have to face decisions such as euthanasia or surrendering his pet, the support provided allowed Lucas not only to receive care, but to remain with his forever owner. Thanks to this procedure, Lucas is now in better health mentally and physically than he has been in over a year!
