There’s never a moment where he doesn’t make me smile.

When Wendy’s brother gave her 2 month old Milo as a gift, she was thrilled. This playful puppy came into Wendy’s life and brought joy and love with him. As a recent graduation as a make up artist, Wendy was preparing for her career, and Milo joined her journey. Wendy describes him as “caring, loving, likes to cuddle and is playful. Milo is so special to me.”
Milo loves to follow Wendy everywhere and be with her. One afternoon, as Wendy was getting ready for a class, she had to go to the car to retrieve something she had forgotten. Milo had been let outside in the backyard and then found his way to the front, where he saw his owner Wendy at her car across the street. Eager to reunite with his owner, Milo ran to join Wendy across the street…only to be hit by a car from an unaware driver.
Witnessing the accident, Wendy was distraught to see Milo had been injured and was bleeding. She immediately took him to the Pet Specialists of Monterey for emergency action. With her brother and dad, they heard the news together that Milo had broken his femur and jaw in the accident. The surgery required to treat Milo ranged up to $8,000. The other options facing Wendy was to have to put her beloved puppy to sleep, leg amputation or to relinquish Milo to the vet.
With these overwhelming options presented to her, Wendy wasn’t sure where to turn. When the vet partner recommended asking Max’s Helping Paws for financial assistance, Wendy was grateful and relieved there may be another option for Milo. Wendy and her family worked hard to provide as many financial resources as they were able to in order for Milo to get the surgery he needed. Between Wendy’s hard work and the additional financial assistance from Max’s Helping Paws, Milo was able to get the surgery he needed to save his leg as well as his life.
Through this challenge and struggle for survival, where Wendy did everything possible for her pup Milo, she shared with us, “You don’t know how much a pet means to someone until you have one.Milo brings happiness, laughter and is always following me around, he is always with me.”
