She’s our baby, we just want her to be comfortable.
— Ball Family —
Fluffy, alert and full of energy even at 9 years old, this beautiful Aussie pup named Zoey is an integral part of the Ball Family. Through thick and thin, Zoey has been a shining bright spot in this family’s life, especially during 2020 when COVID-related changes caused financial hardships. Zoey’s constant playfulness and spirit have continued to shine throughout the difficult year.
In early December, the Balls noticed Zoey was acting as if she may be in pain. They described, “she is not putting any weight or pressure on right rear leg/paw and is limping. Her appetite is very different, she has a sad look on her face and cannot get up fast. She takes time to walk and seems very uncomfortable.” Being responsible pet owners, they knew the first step in helping Zoey would be taking her to the veterinarian to have diagnostic testing done on her right hind leg. However, with the COVID-related job loss, their finances were being stretched to pay day-to-day living expenses. Having heard about Max’s Helping Paws Diagnostic program, the Ball Family reached out for assistance during Zoey’s crisis.
With the Diagnostic program, pet companions receive the next steps needed to determine what is causing their ailment. Often, with bloodwork, x-rays or a consultation, a companion is able to start their road to treatment and health. Being qualified candidates, Max’s Helping Paws was able to extend assistance to Zoey’s for the diagnostic work. With these tests, it was determined Zoey had a lytic lesion – or soft spot – on her hind leg bone, causing her discomfort. Wanting to keep Zoey as comfortable as possible, they were able to receive a treatment plan of medications which allows for more mobility and less pain. With the diagnostics, the Ball family was able to make responsible and informed decisions about how to best keep Zoey comfortable and healthy.
