When he just kept coming around, I knew I was supposed to adopt him.
— Jeff, Scooter's dad —
Jeff is one of those “cat dads” who quickly becomes the “neighborhood house the animals go to.” With a quiet demeanor and no family to speak of, when Scooter appeared at his door one day purring up a storm, Jeff was instantly smitten. Jeff became Scooter’s “person” about 15 years ago, and neither one ever looked back. When Jeff speaks about Scooter, it is with a devotion that you can feel just sitting across from the two of them. Scooter, a very shy cat with everyone but Jeff, came home one evening from his daily “playtime” around his and his neighbor’s yards in pain and his leg dragging, Jeff reached out to VCA All Pets in Salinas.
After 25 years of work, Jeff had recently been laid off and was worried about his ability to get Scooter necessary Xrays and diagnostics, let alone treatment. Though Jeff maintained a small pet-care fund set aside that he contributed to regularly just-in-case, it wasn’t going to be enough. With a completely fractured hind limb, Jeff had a bit of time to raise some of the funds without worry that the fracture would potentially begin healing on its own improperly.
Together Jeff, VCA All Pets and Max’s had all the funds necessary for Scooter to have the necessary surgery. Scooter is back in dad’s arms, bed, couch… and dad is so grateful to have his boy back.
