Asa’s Breath of Fresh Air

Thank you so much for your support! I was so scared when Asa couldn’t breathe! I couldn’t have done this without you!

— Christine —

It’s one thing for a kitty to be out of breath after chasing a laser or toy…it’s an entirely different matter when a kitty experiences labored breathing while sitting calmly. Such was the case for Asa, a beautiful Siamese cat owned by Christina. Having adopted Asa 2 years ago, Christine quickly fell in love with her new family member. Throughout their short time together, Christine noticed Asa would at times have difficulty breathing, but only on occasion would this happen. It turns out Asa was diagnosed with asthma, even as a tiny kitten.

Monitoring Asa closely, Christine has been able to keep the asthma regulated so her beloved kitty can feel comfortable and home. In 2021, Christine noticed a drastic change in Asa’s capacity to breath and her concern grew over the matter. Having lost her job due to COVID, she was feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of the veterinary bills which may be beyond her means. However, Christine was willing to do whatever was needed for Asa’s asthma, and so she reached out to Max’s Helping Paws for assistance in determining what next steps could help Asa breath.

Working with the Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center, we at Max’s were able to quickly offer the financial support needed to alleviate Asa’s difficulty breathing. Thanks to this support, Asa was able to receive x-rays and injections to open her airways and allow her breathing to become regular once again. Thanks to our community partners and donors, and with the quick response of Christine, a life-threatening crisis was averted and Asa returned healthy and home after treatment.
