Chikis’s Road To Health

My parents lost their job and I am now supporting them. We are trying to do everything we can for Chikis, please help if you can.

— Sergio —

For the past 8 years, this family of three has enjoyed the company of little Chikis, a tiny chihuahua mix pup. Even during the pandemic, Chickis has been a bright spot in their world, as Sergio shared, “Our beloved Chikis has been a great company for my elderly parents during this hard time of the pandemic and when they lost their jobs.” This beloved family member is an integral part of the household and when Chikis showed signs of illness in February, the family immediately took her to the veterinarian.

Upon learning Chikis had Addison’s disease, Sergio reached out to Max’s Helping Paws for financial support with treatment. He let us know, “My parents lost their jobs and I am now supporting them financially. Up until now my Chikis has been a healthy dog. We are trying to do everything in our means to help her as she has for us during all this time.”

From three incomes, to living on one income due to pandemic job loss, this family wanted to provide treatment for Chikis but was not in a current position to do so. Thankfully, due to donor support, Max’s was able to establish Chestnut’s Crisis Fund in 2020, which offers assistance to families specifically impacted by COVID-19 job loss, and we were able to extend assistance for Chikis to receive the needed treatments. Chikis was able to receive medications, an observed hospital stay and other diagnostics to stabilize her Addison’s. After treatment, she was able to return healthy, happy and home to Sergio and his family once again.
