Lovin’ Louie

He is our family. And my daughter’s best friend. He’s our special little guy.

— Jessica —

When so much of the world was needing to shut down for safety, one of those places was the museum restuarant Jessica worked at. She, her daughter and their beloved Louie all made the hard decision to move to Monterey in order to be closer to family during such a difficult year. Jessica’s one who has always been willing to work, and work hard, so when her brother was able to start her part-time at his business, she jumped at the opportunity to earn money for herself and family.

In January, Jessica and her daughter were distressed to see their family buddy, Louie, seemed to be in pain and discomfort. Not knowing what was happening, they took him to Blue Pearl (formerly The Pet Specialists) in order to determine what was happening and how Louie could be helped. After some initial tests, it was discovered Louie had an internal blockage and surgery was recommended. Jessica knew Louie needed the care, but was overwhelmed by the financial cost of the surgery. She was told of Max’s Helping Paws and applied with us. She shared part of their story, “My brother/employer currently pays a majority of my rent, until I am able to work full time. I just found care for my daughter and should be able to reach full time this month. I have 1000.00 in savings and am willing to put that towards Louie’s care. I have spent $600 this week on radiograms and medication for his symptoms. He is our family. And my daughter’s best friend. He’s our special little guy.”

Recognizing the need, and the positive prognosis if the surgery was done, Max’s was able to extend the assistance which allowed Louie to have the surgery he needed to remove the blockage. During an especially hard year due to so much COVID-related income loss, we are eternally grateful to our donors and partner organizations who allow families like Louie’s to stay together – happy and healthy at home.
