I am attempting to be a responsible pet owner and pay as much as I can in order to make my pet healthy.
— Ortiz Family —
14 years ago, little Chiquita found her forever family as a gift from a family member. This beloved animal was not just a pet, but truly a family member who brings joy to the whole family each day.
Chiquita’s family was in the process of grieving one family pet, Sanga, when their 14 year old Pomeranian became unexpectedly ill. Chiquita was very sick. had no appetite and was very lethargic, the family became increasingly worried for her health. They monitored her signs and symptoms and kept very close track of her well being. When Chiquita became ill within a few hours, they quickly took her to the Pet Specialists of Monterey.
Her family knew that treatment was needed for Chiquita and quickly reached out to Max’s Helping Paws. They shared that the family of 3 were already in tight financial straights due to past family medical matters, and the upcoming cost of Chiquita’s care was overwhelming to the family. She shared: “I am a single parent that is living pay check to pay check. I am also living with and helping my parents financially. My father’s disability was discontinued this past year and we are all doing our best to make ends meet.”
Together, with the financial assistance from Max’s and outstanding veterinary care, Chiquita was able to get treatment. This grieving family was given new hope when Chiquita was able to be restored to health and home after her surgery.
