Just a few weeks before this story begins, this West Highland White Terrier came into the life of Jim as a bright ray of sunshine and joy. In the past few weeks, these two have bonded closer than Sherlock and his trusty companion. As a new and attentive owner, Jim noticed right away when Watson began experiencing signs of throwing up and stomach troubles. Jim responded quickly and took Watson to the Pet Specialists of Monterey immediately when these signs occurred.
After some diagnostic testing, the cause of trouble was still undetermined for Watson and the veterinarian recommended he stay for overnight testing and observation. This occurred for 2 nights, and Jim had spent literally everything he had, and then some, on the diagnostics for Watson to receive the required tests. On the 3rd night of recommended care and diagnostics, Jim reached out to Max’s Helping Paws. He was aware that Watson needed to have help, but is in a tough financial position due to Covid19. With nothing but concern for his companion first on his mind, Jim shared, “Watson is a really good puppy. He deserves life. If I don’t get this help he may die. Please help me.”
Watson’s liver wasn’t functioning the way it needed to, and it was clear he was on the mend with a good prognosis. To send him home at that point would be dangerous and potentially take Watson backwards in his recovery. Max’s reached out to an angel donor to help secure the additional funds for Watson, which allowed Watson to get the 24/7 care he would need in order to survive. Thanks to Jim’s quick responses in getting Watson to a veterinarian, as well as taking the steps needed to ensure the proper care could be provided…Watson is taking it slow as he returns to his old, playful, puppy self.
Jim has kept us updated with Watson’s progress and happily reported: “I brought him home yesterday.So far so good. He is playful and seems to be eating well. But he still gets tired pretty quickly. I weighed him with me on the bathroom scale, he did lose a pound. They gave me antibiotics, probiotics and appetite stimulant. After his shots if you’re available I would love to bring him over so that you guys could see him in person.” We look forward to meeting Jim and Watson soon!
