Mighty Max is a 2 year old Yorkie mix breed who brings not just smiles to his family, but emotional support for Alma’s 15 year old daughter, who suffers from chronic pain, anxiety and depression. The past 2 years, Alma’s daughter and Max have been inseparable, with Max consistently providing emotional comfort as the two have developed a deep bond.
When Max unexpectedly got bit by a larger dog, Alma was concerned about the impact not just to Max, but also to her daughter if Max was unable to receive the veterinary care he needed. After rushing Max to the Pet Specialists of Monterey, Alma was informed emergency surgery with post care treatment would be needed for Max. As a single mother of 2 kids, Alma is also an essential caregiver for seniors and has had her hands full juggling work and her family during the pandemic. With things stretched tight and concern for her family her priority, when the cost of surgery and treatment came back with an estimate between $2,700 – $5,000, Alma reached out to Max’s Helping Paws for financial support. The family was able to pay $1,500 towards the care of Max, and fortunately, Max’s Helping Paws was able to step in and provide the additional means needed for Max to start his path to healing.
With happy hearts and relieved minds, Alma and her family eagerly brought Max back to his home after his surgery where he could heal and recover. Thanks to the community support and family’s responsible ownership, Max has made a full recovery and is once again providing emotional support for this family of 3.
