Having a sleepy, warm companion cat sitting on your lap as you study is one of life’s great pleasures. College student Garima is fortunate to have such a companion, Oreo, who is her constant study companion and friend. When a friend of Garima’s grandmother passed away 2 years ago, Oreo was adopted by Garima and quickly became a crucial part of her world.
As an aware pet owner, Garima became concerned when Oreo seemed unable to use the litter box as he normally would. In fact, Oreo seemed unable to potty at all. Garima quickly took Oreo to the Pet Specialists of Monterey for diagnostic work to determine what was wrong. After receiving fluids and diagnostics, it was determined Oreo was suffering a blockage from either urinary stones or crystals in his bladder, both which may require surgery. As a full-time student doing her best, Garima shared with Max’s, “I am applying for assistance because the ER bills are already a lot more than I can afford as I am a full-time student. And I don’t know if I have enough funds to pay for the surgery.”
With an over 75% positive outcome for Oreo, Max’s Helping Paws saw there was much hope, and many more cuddling study times ahead for Oreo if he received treatment. Thanks to the Doris Day Foundation, Max’s was able to assist Garima by providing the matching financial assistance she needed to ensure Oreo got care.
