Where I go, she goes.
— Michael —
Ruby’s owner, Michael, has only had Ruby a few months, but she has quickly gained a special place in his heart. Ruby was adopted by Michael’s son as a puppy from a family who had a litter in Carmel. Ruby’s owner says that she truly loves people and has stolen everyone’s heart in their apartment complex. She goes with him everywhere. “Where I go, she goes” he said. His love can be felt through his voice… the way he talks about her. One of Ruby’s favorite things to do is to go to the beach and just run around.
The Monterey Peninsula is notorious for fleas from all of the sand dunes. He noticed that she had been scratching quite a bit by her abdomen, but had attributed it to flea bites. One day, Ruby’s went in for a flea bath, and Michael noticed the mass. Thinking, as so many do, that the bump was a product of the flea bites, Michael waited a bit. When he realized that the tumor continued to grow, he immediately took Ruby to his veterinarian at Animal Health Center Salinas, where he was informed that Ruby had a mammary tumor that needed removal.
Michael was terrified for Ruby, and called everywhere he could think of for financial assistance, as he is on a fixed income and had already spent quite a bit on Ruby’s medical needs prior to this diagnosis. Animal Health Center graciously sponsored Ruby to apply for a grant from Max’s Helping Paws Foundation (MHPF). Knowing how important it is to do a biopsy so intelligent and thoughtful decisions can be made, MHPF assisted with the costs of tumor removal.
