She’s my friend, I don’t want to see her in pain.
— Kathy —
Small but mighty, this toy poodle named Thumbelina has been a service dog for her owner Kathy the past 2 years. Through thick and thin, this beautiful pup has given strength, courage and hope to Kathy since the moment they became a family.
In October, an unexpected heartache occurred when, although all precautions were taken, Thumbelina was hit by a car. Fearing for her companion, Kathy rushed Thumbelina to The Pet Specialists of Monterey for quick treatment. After xrays and diagnostics, it was determined that Thumbelina had a fractured femur in her back leg. Being a disabled senior on a fixed income, Kathy knew she would be unable to provide the finances needed for the treatment. That was when she reached out to Max’s Helping Paws to obtain assistance to ensure Thumbelina’s bone was reset and the pins needed to secure the fracture would be put in place.
Consulting the veterinarian’s review of care with a healthy prognosis for this pup, Max’s was able to extend assistance to Kathy for the treatment of Thumbelina. Thanks to organization’s such as the Doris Day Foundation and donations which give pets a second chance, Thumbelina was able to receive the treatment needed on her road to recovery.
