Scooter’s Golden Years

He’s 14 but has so much life in him!

— Jennifer —

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? This 14 year old Bichon Poodle mix was lovingly adopted a year ago into Jennifer’s home where Scooter was welcomed by 3 other household companions. Jennifer’s household was completed when Scooter came home that day and it has been a home full of playful paws and licks ever since!

As can happen sometimes with old age, Scooter began experiencing a loss of sight in early 2020. Jennifer responsibly monitored the situation, how Scooter interacted with her other companions and the overall health of Scooter during this trying time. Seeking to determine how to best provide care and love for Scooter during his sweet golden years, Jennifer contacted Los Coches Animal Hospital for guidance and insight as to how to proceed with care. Scooter was diagnosed with glaucoma, and it was determined the best course of action for continued health would be to have surgery to remove his eye so that his whole body could heal instead of continue to fight the disease of glaucoma.

Wanting to provide the best care for Scooter, but dealing with a challenging year financially, Jennifer reached out to Max’s Helping Paws to share, “We are dealing with a few blows right now. One being our only vehicle has broken down and will cost the same amount as his surgery to repair.” Recognizing that sometimes life has multiple unexpected hardships at once, Max’s reviewed the case and was pleased to be able to offer the financial support needed for Scooter’s surgery. With this surgery, Scooter’s body will no longer be fighting the disease of glaucoma, but will have the opportunity to heal and continue living out his golden years of life with his other household family members.
